Making Stud Wall Dividers as Movable Walls by Sam Wickles
In general, making stud wall dividers can be very easy. The process of building these movable walls is just the same as building a wall for any type of room with the limitation that walls divider is portable, and it can serve for various purposes. Other than a wall divider can be functional, it can also be decorative. That is why you need to extend your horizons and squeeze out your creative juices so you can imagine how your wall divider would look like.
In terms of functionality, it is a bit more technical as some standard features are dependent on the other factors and areas in your home. In making stud wall dividers, make sure that the following things are available: measuring tape, hammer, electric skill saw, level, nail punch, sheet rock, sheet rock tape, sheet rock screws, sheet rock mud, panels, finishing nails, 2×4 lumber and 1 ½ inch fat head nails.
First off, identify the need for such a stud wall divider. Knowing its purpose will provide you the essentials on where should it be placed and the dimensions of your movable walls.
The next thing you can do is to measure the dimensions of the room that needs to be divided. Determine the dimensions for the divider and make some allowance if necessary. It has to be fit from the floor up to the ceiling, unless you will give space for the top of the movable wall which is the same to a cubical. In this case, there is a need to extend it out from the wall by a specific distance. This is to provide allowance to walk around for the divider, unless, a door is installed for both sides of the room.
The next step is to build the frame for the divider. Using the 2×4 studs, cut out the dimensions needed for the frame. Inside a wall, studs are usually made 18 inches apart. The frames of the divider would be consistent with the existing walls if these standard stud widths are used. Also, be sure to use 4-inch flat nails for the reinforcements in your frame as they are long enough to carry the load of the frame along with the strength.
To match the room where it will be put, mask the stud frame with a paneling or sheet rock. Using 1 ½ inch sheet rock screws, you can attach the sheet rock to the frame. This shall hold the sheet rock steadily as they are made to be used for paneling and trim. Tack them using a small punch and use plastic wood to cover the nail. Cover it with a finish that is fitting to your paneling. This is to be able to hide the nails.
From the 2×4 boards, make small feet for the divider. It should stick out around four inches on both sides of the divider. Make four of these and put them evenly on the divider from one end to another. This shall stabilize the divider.
Lastly, paint the movable walls or cover it with wallpaper. Decorate it with style. Install it in the place where it will be used, and you’re good to go with your portable wall.

Chapters: Gutenberg Bible, Block Book, 36-Line Bible, Sibyllenbuch Fragment. Source: Wikipedia. Free updates online. Not illustrated. Excerpt: The Gutenberg Bible (also known as the 42-line Bible, the Mazarin Bible or the B42) was the first major book printed with a movable type printing press, marking the start of the “Gutenberg Revolution” and the age of the printed book. Widely hailed for its high aesthetic and artistic qualities, the book has iconic status in the West. It is an edition of the Vulgate, printed by Johannes Gutenberg, in Mainz, Germany in the 1450s. Twenty-one complete copies survive, and are considered the most expensive books on the market if available. The 36-line Bible is also sometimes referred to as a Gutenberg Bible, but is possibly the work of another printer. In appearance the Gutenberg Bible closely resembles the large manuscript Bibles that were being produced at the time. The Giant Bible of Mainz, probably produced in Mainz in 1452-3, has been suggested as the particular model Gutenberg used. Around this time large Bibles, designed to be read from a lectern, were returning to popularity for the first time since the twelfth century. In the intervening period, small hand-held Bibles had been usual. The text of the Gutenberg Bible is traditional, falling within the Paris Vulgate group of texts. Manuscript Bibles all had texts that differed slightly, and the copy used by Gutenberg as the exemplar for his Bible has not been discovered. The Bible was not Gutenberg’s first work. Preparation of it probably began soon after 1450, and the first finished copies were available in 1454 or 1455. However, it is not known exactly how long the Bible took to print. Gutenberg made three significant changes during the printing process. The first sheets were rubricated by being |

1543 and All That: Image and Word, Change and Continuity in the Proto-Scientific Revolution $182.9 The focus of this volume, the Proto-Scientific Revolution, is that distinctive period, essentially High Renaissance in character, which paved the way for the Scientific Revolution of the seventeenth century. The epicentre of this important period is 1543, the annus mirabilis which saw the publication, amongst other seminal works, of Copernicus’ On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres, and Vesalius’ magnificently illustrated On the Fabric of the Human Body. A substantial literature exists on the Copernican Revolution, but the present original collection of papers, accessible to the non-specialist reader, breaks new ground, not only in bringing the works of Copernicus and Vesalius together, but by placing them within the context of the Proto-Scientific Revolution as a whole, the Renaissance of the arts, and the Reformation. In addition, the book, while noting discontinuities, pin-points linkages between the Proto-Scientific Revolution and the periods preceding and following it. As the volume focuses on an age which experienced the impact of both linear perspective and movable type printing, emphasis is placed upon the changing nature and roles of both image and word. |
