Where to begin as a young, aspiring, poet?
I’m turning 18 in May & I feel like I have a legit gift in writing poetry. It’s all I do during school, and it mostly just comes to me. Like it’s natural, and a real gift. I don’t want to waste it and I’ve been thinking a lot about self-publishing except I have absolutely no idea where to start.
Should I Blog my poems, submit them to a magazine or publisher?
I really don’t know how to start so advice and comments would be greatly appreciated.
In my opinion, I would submit them to local publications first and if you find success there, branch out to more well known ones. Colleges have literary magazines and newspapers, and there are sure to be some journals or other small publications around your area.
Self-publishing is always an option too, but it is expensive. Perhaps circulate a few around your friends and family and they may in turn circulate them to their friends and family. Blogging is of course one of the better ways to get your content seen, and it doesn’t cost you a dime and you will never have to fear getting rejected.
